    高分范文参考:

In a world where the news media has promised to provide genuine information and report facts impartially, people have shown more trust than ever in the media in their search for information. They truly believe that the old saying “to see is to believe” applies constantly, and by watching, reading and listening to news, they know the world better. In my opinion, they should pay attention to some facts (which will be presented later) before trading their beliefs and judgment for the information delivered by the media.

The news media has long been reporting news selectively to cater for viewers and nurture their prejudices. The latest example is how the media dealt with reporting the life of people in Iraq.Admittedly, the media’s attempt to paint a miserable, gloomy picture for people in Iraq is successful,so the public is convinced and supportive of any effort to rescue these people living in agony, namely,a war at whatever cost. Now the war is over and the misery persists. Many people are awake to the fact that Iraqi people’s standards of living are not improved but reduced by a war.Iraqi people are victim to the world’s news agencies and their audiences.

For those who are confident about the objectivity of the news media, they should reassess their conclusion because the news media has many reasons to twist facts and deliver deceptive information. They might cite economists’ opinions to suggest that the economy is not as bad as expected,so the public will be optimistic and consequently, unaware of any forthcoming threat to their wealth. They are interested in crimes, celebrities’ personal life and other subjects that have entertainment value. They exaggerate or downplay facts purposely in order to feed curious viewers. What motivates them most is not the truth itself but the commercial value possibly created by the truth.

As these facts are brought to attention, few people will agree that their heavy reliance on news media is a positive development. The news media is not only leading but also misleading the audience. No subject has appearance in the media without distortion.Given this, people should accept news critically before they are duped.
