  • Did you mean James Joyce's Ulysses?You definitely aim high considering how complex Joyce's language is.As for your question,that shall depend on your definition of success.Personally,I won't recommend any of the modernist literature works,particularly Joyce's novels,as good choices to improve your English skills.Even native speakers at the college level find it exceeding difficult to understand the nebulous messages behind Joyces' "stream-of-consciousness" language.Doubtlessly Ulysses is one of the greatest novels in history,if not the greatest.I am sure you can indeed learn a great deal from this masterpiece in terms of its philosophical and literary depths.However,I still think you would make greater progress in the long run if you could set yourself off at a slower pace.At this stage of learning,I think authors such as Dickens,the Bronte sisters and Austen are much more preferable to you than the unintelligible Joyce.I appreciate your ambitions,but goals are better achieved with smaller targets.
