the girl in this piece contacts her father every few days using the mail. She often updates him on what is happening lately and things like that. Her father also replies, telling her his opinions of matters, or putting himself in other people's shoes would also help her to solve her problems. However, writing letters often does not always mean that they are close, in fact, its the opposite, I think the way she contacts her parents lacks a vital element. Due to her mother's second marriage, she moved away, tearing this family apart.
