Ambiguity generally exists in language phenomenon.English ambiguous sentences often increase the difficulty in understanding,which causes communication obstacles.However,appropriate employ of ambiguous sentences can achieve excellent rhetoric effects.For example,the application of pun can achieve ironical and humorous effects.The vivid language always leaves people deep impression.So it is necessary to analyze language phenomena and the humorous effect to avoid the negative function and strengthen the positive function.Ambiguity appears on many levels,such as speech ambiguity,lexical ambiguity,grammar ambiguity,semantic ambiguity and pragmatic ambiguity.This paper mainly analyzes reasons for English ambiguity and its humorous effects to explore its positive meaning in our life.
