Practise Makes Me Grow Up
Today is Thursday and it was sunny.I thought today was one of the most exciting and meaningful days in my life.I went to the filed and helped farmer to plant rice.I also went to many poor families’ houses to do our survey.Though I felt very tired and hungry but my mind always supported me.I never stopped to have a rest during our activities because I knew through this activity I can improve myself and make me strong.
At first,I was very afraid about planting rice.Many friends told me that there were many insects in the field and maybe I would drop into the mud.But when I reached the fild,I began to try to face the challenge.I made my mind to get over the problem.After seeing our teacher show how to plant rice for us,we went into the filed and began our wo-rk.Gradually I felt I beat myself and I could do the work quickly and well.While I was seeing the filed on the besides road,I really thought I had a big success!Also planting rice by myself makes me know how precious the rice is,I thought I would not waste rice at all.
In the afternoon,we went to poor families’ houses that in the countryside and did our survey.Before we knocking the door of the house,we were nervous.Maybe they would refuse us but what can we do?I knew we couldn’t go back,so I chose to go in.To our surprise,they were very friendly and were satisfied to accept our questions.We complete-d our survey at 4 o’clock.After counting the data,I found that the family in the country really needed help.I also thought I should do something for them.
In all ,I thought I just like a farmer that harvested in the filed because I really grew up a lot.
challenge makes me grow up
It was the very first time I was standing in front of 215 students--the American sophomore students of --to give a lecture.Wow~holycrap huge huge amount of anxiety and unsureness.the technology messed me up this afternoon,I forgot to rewine the tape after previewing it last Friday,and I was so worried and helpless seeing it didn't work.Just quickly get some tech geek to come,and finally the guy was my life saver for today.Think about that,first lecture,no back-up plan,it this tape didn't work,what should I do,and the professor is way home celebrating new year.But it ended up with nice conclusion,it helped me with much promotion speaking in public.Being well prepared always helps!Also,some girls came to talk to me about the syllabus and lectures and quiz-going to happen.They gave me lot of encouragement also and found this feedback--giving and taking--mutual benefit.Life is mirror,so smile to it and be helpful to others.
I also presented child abuse and neglect in China in the evening class for extra credit,and also for sharing my thought on this topic.For this time,I felt like keeping thinking further and deeper and giving a second thought will never hurt.For example,I quoted a study done in 2009 about abuse and neglect in urban China,but this time when I was preparing for the presentation,I found this study is questionable,since culture means a lot and very crucial context for research,children reported they have been hit or kicked does not mean seriously they are abused,how often,for what reasons,and consideration like that needs to be taken.The way chinese parents discipline and show affection could be different or must be different from parents in other cultures.It could never be simply put in some way in a rigid defination of a social issue.
Tomorrow will the meeting day,meeting with YE for syntax and data entering at 10am and 11 with professor for a guest lecture,and 12 with lab girls for an article-freeking me out a lot,couldn't easily understand it.
Hope it will be productive Friday and weekends for more readings and writing drafts of upcoming due assignments.
